Apply for your Social Insurance Number
You need a SIN to work and to get government benefits. Apply online or at a Service Canada office.

Apply for your health card (MSI)
In Nova Scotia the health card is called MSI. Apply as soon as you arrive. Coverage may not start right away, so consider short-term insurance for the gap.

Open a bank account and get a phone plan
Most banks have newcomer packages. Bring your passport and immigration papers.
